LG Display has officially begun mass production of the first monitor panel based on its new RGB Tandem OLED technology. A 540Hz/720Hz OLED panel is also in the pipeline for 2025.
We already knew it was coming, but now it is official.
This follows the start of production of the RGB Tandem OLED TV panel used in LG G5, Panasonic Z95B and Philips OLED910/OLED950. LG Display supplies panels to a wide range of major electronics brands.
27" RGB Tandem OLED
This first RGB Tandem OLED panel for gaming monitors will be 27 inches with 2560x1440 resolution, 280Hz refresh rate and up to 1500 nits peak brightness (1.5% window).
The new panel is designed for OLED gaming monitors that will compete with QD-OLED. Asus and Gigabyte have already announced plans to launch models based on the panel in 2025.
LG Display says the panel uses an anti-glare coating that "blocks 99% of internal and external light reflections through a special film and improved internal panel element structure".

540/720Hz OLED coming later
LG Display also announced that it has developed a separate 540Hz OLED panel with 2560x1440 resolution. This surpasses Samsung Display's 500Hz QD-OLED panel.
However, the panel can go even higher to 720Hz at 720p HD resolution, confirmed LG Display. 720Hz will far surpass anything in the market combined with extremely fast 0.03ms response time.
- "Exceeding a 500Hz refresh rate had been considered a virtually unbreakable threshold due to the associated steep drop in picture quality. LG Display has successfully overcome this limitation by developing and applying a new proprietary algorithm. The 540Hz refresh rate goes beyond even the highest standards envisioned by professional gamers for OLED gaming monitors," explained LG Display. "Meanwhile, LG Display’s proprietary Dynamic Frequency & Resolution (DFR) technology enables ultra-high refresh rate modes of up to 720Hz in HD resolution. DFR allows users to select their preferred refresh rate mode depending on the content."
The panel will meet VESA's highest ClearMR 21000 tier. LG Display did not explicitly say whether the 540/720Hz panel uses RGB Tandem OLED, but Asus has all but confirmed it. More details will be announced later.
Mass production of this panel is slated for the second half of 2025.
