One of the greatest uses of 3D in a movie ever can now be enjoyed in its full glory – with 3D in 4K and HDR – as Tron: Legacy has been released alongside Tron: Ares.
3D fans are finally getting some redemption after 3D failed spectacularly on TVs in 2016.
James Cameron is pushing 3D forward with 48fps high frame rate, while Apple has introduced a 3D format that far surpasses 3D Blu-ray, offering for the first time 4K, HDR, Dolby Atmos and even 48fps HFR.

Tron in 3D
Fans can now experience one of the best-executed 3D films ever with the release of Tron: Legacy in 3D. It is also listed with 4K with Dolby Vision HDR. This 3D version is exclusive to visionOS on Apple Vision Pro.
Tron: Legacy from 2010 was shot natively in 3D, but what makes it special is its selective use of 3D. Real-world scenes start in 2D but when Sam Flynn enters The Grid, the world transforms into 3D, creating a powerful portal-like effect.

It arrives alongside the new Tron: Ares, now also available exclusively in 3D 4K Dolby Vision on Apple Vision Pro.
On Disney+ and Apple TV
Both movies can be experienced in 3D via the Apple TV app or Disney+ app on Apple Vision Pro. While Tron: Legacy was already available on the Apple TV app, Disney's releases do not appear in 3D until their release on Disney+.
The Disney+ app finally arrived on Meta Quest headsets in mid-December, but the app does not support 3D movies, as Meta lacks hardware support for MV-HEVC video decoding required for 3D 4K. Meta's low-resolution LCD panels cannot deliver 4K or HDR either.
On Disney+, there is also a version in the expanded 'IMAX Enhanced' 1.90:1 aspect ratio, but this version is unfortunately not in 3D.
Tron: Ares received a lukewarm reception in cinemas but is currently topping the charts on Disney+.
