Just one year after the last price increase, PS5 consoles will once again get significantly more expensive, Sony has announced. You can still buy them at the old prices for a few more days.
This current console generation is the first to see price increases since launch, affecting both PlayStation and Xbox. According to the industry, the rises are due to challenges in sourcing components, although a similar situation during the pandemic did not result in price hikes.
- "With continued pressures in the global economic landscape, we’ve made the decision to increase the prices of PS5, PS5 Pro, and PlayStation Portal remote player globally. We know that price changes impact our community, and after careful evaluation, we found this was a necessary step to ensure we can continue delivering innovative, high-quality gaming experiences to players worldwide," said Sony PlayStation.
Prices to increase significantly
The new prices take effect on April 2, 2026 – this Thursday. PlayStation 5 Digital, PlayStation 5 Disc, PlayStation 5 Pro and PlayStation Portal will all get more expensive.
The timeline looks like this:
- November 2020: PS5 Digital and PS5 Disc launched at 400 and 500 USD/Euro
- August 2022: PS5 Digital and PS5 Disc prices increased to 450 and 550 USD/Euro
- April 2025: PS5 Digital raised to 500 USD/Euro
- April 2026: PS5 Digital and PS5 Disc raised to 600 and 650 USD/Euro. PS5 Pro sees an increase to 900 USD/Euro
This is an extra 100 dollar or Euro per console, or an extra 150 dollars for PS5 Pro in the US. Compared to launch prices, this represents increases of 50%, 30%, and 12.5–20%, respectively.
