Sony's most powerful game console, PlayStation 5 Pro, is sold out in many countries ahead of Grand Theft Auto 6. The base PlayStation 5 remains available, but prices are rising.Grand Theft Auto 6 brought Netflix to its knees last Thursday, when a 26-minute preview premiered on the streaming service.
The preview is a technical and graphical tour de force that shows the potential of this console generation is still substantial, even though the game is limited to 30fps. Grand Theft Auto 6 will not be released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One or PC at launch.

PlayStation 5 Pro sold out
Several media outlets have reported that the PlayStation 5 Pro is currently sold out in the US, apparently as a direct consequence of the Grand Theft Auto 6 preview – gamers appear to have been impressed.
FlatpanelsHD's checks reveal that PS5 Pro is also sold out in many European countries.

PlayStation 5 is still available
If you do not already own a PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro, Xbox Series S or Xbox Series X, it may be a good idea to buy one soon if you or someone else in the family is planning to play GTA VI at launch or around Christmas.
The base PlayStation 5 is still readily available, but supply could come under pressure as the November 19 launch approaches. Prices have also been steadily rising since December 2025. Sony announced an official price increase in April 2026. Could the holiday season for game consoles be at risk? It cannot be ruled out.
It is worth noting that the GTA VI preview was captured on the base PlayStation 5. The Xbox Series X is roughly as powerful, so it should also be able to run the game well. The significantly less powerful Xbox Series S is more of a question mark, however.
Neither Sony nor Rockstar has commented on performance improvements for PS5 Pro.
