QD-OLED Edge brings down the price of OLED monitors

After charging premium prices for several years, Samsung Display is now rolling out 'QD-OLED Edge' as a line of more affordable panels for monitors.

You may have already seen a few of these monitors on the market, although they are not typically marketed to consumers as QD-OLED Edge. The lineup is now expanding to a larger size, with several monitor makers adopting Samsung Display's panels for their products.

QD-OLED Edge offers the familiar QD-OLED picture quality, including pixel-level control of luminance and color, but the panels are not as bright or fast as Samsung Display's newer and more advanced generations. The idea is to offer a lower-priced QD-OLED alternative and help expand the market.


27" and 32" QD-OLED Edge
The first 'Edge' panel is a 27-inch 1440p panel with a 240Hz refresh rate, 200 nits full-screen brightness and 400 nits peak brightness, as pointed out by TFTCentral. It corresponds to a third-generation QD-OLED panel from 2024.

This panel is already available in monitors from Gigabyte, AOC, Dell, Samsung Electronics, Asus, MSI, Acer, ViewSonic, ASRock and others.

The upcoming second 'Edge' panel is a 32-inch 4K panel with a 180Hz refresh rate. It also delivers 200 nits full-screen brightness and 400 nits peak brightness, but is based on fourth-generation QD-OLED panel technology from 2025.

None of these panels feature RGB-stripe pixels, so they are primarily aimed at gaming and media as text clarity will be affected. 

Lower-cost OLED monitors
While these QD-OLED monitors will not satisfy discerning users or those looking for impactful HDR, they still represent a significant upgrade over typical LCD gaming monitors in overall picture quality, including contrast, black levels, color, motion and viewing angles.

They will help bring down prices in the still relatively expensive OLED monitor market – we hope LG Display will respond with a similarly affordable WOLED line. QD-OLED monitors based on 'Edge' panels have been available in the US and Europe since April 2026 and currently start at around $300-350, depending on the brand.
