Sony has been through a turbulent time, and has now selected a new CEO to navigate the ship. Japanese Kazuo Hirai replaces Howard Stringer as CEO and President. Kaz Hirai has been credited with Sony’s gains in the video console market.
Changes at Sony
Sony has undergone drastic changes in the past year. Sony has quit their partnership with Samsung, rearranged their TV division, bought Ericsson out of Sony Ericsson, formed a strong display alliance with Hitachi and Toshiba and created a 4-screen strategy, to develop an ecosystem than ties together TVs, PCs, tablets and smartphones.

Now Sony has also replaced their CEO. Howard stringer abandons the role as "President and CEO" and Kazuo Hirai is promoted. Welsh Howard Stringer will take over as Chairman of the board.
At this point we are unsure of what to expect but with the recent – and significant – changes at Sony, it is likely to see them follow the same route with a new coordinator of the project. Kazuo Hirai is primarily known for his efforts at Sony’s video console division but has also been in charge of the consumer electronics division (including TVs) as well as engaged in the music division. It is also expected that Hirai wants to combine Sony’s fragmented structure and utilize the synergies between divisions.
Kazuo Hirai will take over as CEO and President in April. Stringer will take over as Chairman of the board in June.
