Philips 2012 TV line-up - overview

Philips has unveiled their 2012 TV line-up. The high-end 9000 is still unconfirmed but Philips has released complete details on the 8000, 7000, 6000, 5500, 4000 and 3000 series. You can expect highlights such Ambilight, elegant design with slim bezels, 3D, Smart TV and more.

Philips 2012 TVs
Philips has unveiled their new TVs that will be available from the second quarter of 2012; the high-end versions from autumn 2012. With the new line-up, Philips has focused on minimalistic designs with extremely slim bezels, just like most of its competitors.


Philips 8000 range
 Philips has made further improvements to their picture systems and promises better 2D and 3D pictures than ever. The most expensive models incorporate the Perfect Pixel HD engine and the mid-end ranges will utilize Pixel Precise HD, meaning that the picture enhancement chips move to cheaper ranges in 2012. Philips also boasts an 800 Hz PMR (perfect motion rate) system that optimizes reproduction of moving images through a frame interpolation and scanning backlight combination.


Philips Smart TV Premium-platform

In 2012, Philips plans to step up their Smart TV offerings with a new platform dubbed Smart TV Premium. The platform will offer TV apps, Skype calling, and much more. The App Gallery is Philips’ app store where users can download new apps and Philips also promises new video-on-demand partners. Additionally, most TVs come with built-in WiFi and USB recording functionality. The recording function allows users to record TV shows, pause live TV and rewind. It just requires an external USB hard drive connected to one of the USB inputs.


Philips 7000 range
 Philips’ signature technology is obviously still around. Ambilight comes in different formats and can be set to follow the on-screen action or simply display a constant color on the wall behind the TV. And like last year’s line-up, Philips is now utilizing LEDs for Ambilight for lower power consumption and a wider color spectrum.

3D is still around, too. Philips continues to hedge its bets and will release both active 3DTVs (3D Max) and passive 3DTV (Easy 3D) – the latter with inexpensive and flicker-free 3D glasses. Philips has also enabled the cool two-player full screen technology on all 3D models. The function allows users to enjoy two completely different images on the same TV, simultaneously. It obviously requires 3D glasses.

Lastly, Philips highlights their new remote control. This also means that Philips ditches the oval-shaped remote control that came bundled with the TVs for a few years.

Philips 9000
Philips’ new 9000 range has not been unveiled yet. We will update this article with more information as soon as possible.

Philips 8000
Philips’ 8000 range has traditionally been one step down from the flagship and this is also the case in 2012. It offers Ambilight Spectre XL, active 3D technology, Perfect Pixel HD and a very sleek design.

Philips 6000
