Sony unveiled two new tablets at IFA, Tablet S and Tablet P, based on the Android operating system. Sony's tablets have a range of unique features and they not only communicate with TVs, Tablet S can also control TVs as a universal remote. Sony has included an infrared transmitter in Tablet S.
Sony Tablet S is universal remote
Sony did not jump on the tablet bandwagon from the start but now Sony has entered the Apple-vs.-the-rest tablet market with two different tablets called Tablet S and Tablet P – the latter with two displays, the first with infrared.

That basically means that Tablet S acts as an universal remote that can control most of the home electronic devices today, including TVs, Blu-ray players and DVD players. And we are not only talking about Sony products here.

With a remote App installed on the tablet users can use the pre-defined infrared codes for most devices and add infrared codes for unrecognized devices. The remote App also lets users customize the interface on the display.

If you have a newer 2010-2011 Sony HDTV both tablets can even act as Wi-Fi remotes with the Remote App from the Android Market.
In addition Sony has incorporated other functions to make the tablets play together with a Sony TV. DLNA let users share video, images and music stored on the tablets and Wi-Fi Direct let users “push” media content from the tablet directly to the TV screen. We saw this demonstrated at IFA and it worked fairly good – but with some delay.
