Have you noticed how Apple products cost the same in different stores? According to the Wall Street Journal, Samsung and Sony will take the same route, and introduce minimum prices on TVs in order to prevent ”showrooming”.
Higher prices on Sony/Samsung TVs?
According to The Wall Street Journal, Samsung and Sony will start restricting retailers from offerings discounts on their TV products.

Sony and Samsung have started to enforce minimum pricing on TVs
By introducing a minimum pricing on TVs, the manufacturers hope to regain profitability for both themselves and retailers. Additionally, the manufacturers hope to prevent “showrooming” where customers peak around in stores, and buy from the cheapest online retailer afterwards.
The price strategy has worked out very pretty for Apple but we are unsure how it will work out for Sony and Samsung. Both manufacturers have so many TV models that it is almost impossible to grasp and both have a far wider retail spread. Also, customers could simply switch to one of the competing TV manufacturers, such as LG, Sharp or Panasonic, if they sell for a lot less.
We have already seen price hikes for some of Sony’s TVs, and it looks like TVs are about the get more expensive – or at least not sell at extreme discounts. Both companies have confirmed the change in their pricing policy.
