Toshiba has released its two new Ultra HD ranges. L9400 is the flagship with extra deep blacks and L8400 is a cheaper alternative that is available for $1599.
New Toshiba Ultra HD TVs
Originally announced at CES in January, the new Toshiba Ultra HD TVs are now shipping to customers in the US at prices far lower than originally announced by Toshiba.
The L9400 is the most expensive because of a full-array LED backlight that is capable of locally dimming zones on the TV to improve black depth. It will be available as a 65-inch model with an elegant and modern look, says Toshiba.
In addition, L9400 uses several of Toshiba’s picture systems and supports HDMI 2.0, which is required for external 4K players as well as HEVC decoding, which is required to stream in 4K from streaming services. The LE9400 also comes with Toshiba’s in-house Smart TV platform with apps such as YouTube and Netflix. However, Netflix 4K has not been confirmed.
The L8400 is a cheaper model without the local dimming system, but with most of the other features, including Smart TV apps, HDMI 2.0 and HEVC decoding, making it a capable Ultra HD TV compared to the competition.
Toshiba 65-inch L9400 (65L9400U) is shipping now for $3025
and 58-inch LE8400 (58L8400U) is shipping for $1600
