Apple has announced a new 12-inch Retina MacBook with a redesign. It is not part of the Air or Pro series, but it is 24 percent thinner than the existing Air model. The 12-inch LCD displays has 2304x1440 pixels.

The new MacBook had been rumored for some time and was expected to be part of the Air series, but instead Apple has opted to just call it “Retina MacBook”.
The incredible thin laptop features a 12-inch LCD display with a resolution of 2304x1440 pixels. The high resolution will offer a crisp image when browsing websites, looking at photos, playing games, and more.
- ”Apple has reinvented the notebook with the new MacBook, and at just two pounds and 13.1 mm, it's the thinnest and lightest Mac ever,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.
It weighs 2 pounds and is 24 percent thinner than the thinnest Air model at 13.1mm. It will be available in gold, silver and space gray. It also has a redesigned keyboard, with a “butterfly” mechanism and more surface area for keys. It also has a revamped trackpad with Force Touch that can detect the amount of pressure for use with gestures. It also has haptic feedback.
It achieves all this with a completely fanless design. Battery life is said to be “all-day” or around 9-10 hours. It also uses a single USB-C port, which includes power, USB data, DisplayPort and HDMI.
The Retina MacBook will start shipping on April 10, starting at $1299 for the basic configuration.
