Bang & Olufsen has released an AR app for iPhone and iPad that uses the smartphone camera and screen to show you how their products appear in your living space.
B&O AR Experience
The app is called B&O AR Experience, short for “Augmented Reality Experience”. The app is, of course, free as B&O hopes that it will make consumers invest in more of their products once they have seen them visualized in a familiar environment.
The app uses the smartphone camera and Apple’s ARKit to analyze your surroundings and identify floors and flat surfaces. You can then use it to place the BeoVision Eclipse and BeoVision Horizon TVs (on the floor or wall) or speakers such as BeoSound Edge and BeoPlay A9 in your living room. It can also show you the BeoSound Shape wall solution.

With the new app, B&O follows in the footsteps of other companies including IKEA who was a launch partner for Apple’s ARKit technology. A couple of years ago, TV manufacturers started releasing similar apps, although far more limited in form and function.
The latest AR technology allows us to better visualize virtual objects in our living spaces, and from all angles. Once you have placed a B&O product via the app, you can walk around it with your smartphone in hand. It is possible to place multiple products at once, including stereo speakers. The company did not disclose the developer of the app.
The B&O AR Experience app is compatible with iPhone 6s and newer as well as iPad Pro (2017) and newer. It requires iOS 12 and can be downloaded here. The company expects to release an Android version next year.
