An upgraded version of the Philips Hue lightstrip lets you install mood lighting behind any TV from any brand, much like Philips Ambilight.
Philips Hue for TVs
Philips TV is almost synonymous with Ambilight. If you wish to imitate the effect on TVs from other brands, the new Philips Hue product can help you. It is created by a company called Signify who owns the rights to the Philips Hue brand.
- "We are constantly looking for new ways to take smart lighting entertainment to the next level with Philips Hue. Our new Philips Hue Play gradient lightstrip generates multiple colors at once and blends them together seamlessly, creating a magical viewing effect around your TV. We’re proud to offer our consumers such a truly immersive experience in their own home," said Jasper Vervoort, Business Leader for Philips Hue, Signify.

However, to have the lightstrip dynamically match the colors on-screen you must also invest in the Philips Hue Bridge and the Hue Play Sync HDMI box for TVs, or the Hue Brige and the Hue Sync app for PC monitors. If you do not already own these devices, it is a fairly significant investment. You can find a new mid-range Philips Ambilight TV for the same price.
Philips Hue Play gradient lightstrip will launch in Europe, North America, Australia and New Zealand on October 6, 2020. Versions for 55-, 65- and 75-inch TVs will cost €180/$200, €200/$220, and €230/$240, respectively. You can find more information on philips-hue-com.
