Earlier this year we revealed Sharp and Pioneer’s plans to cooperate on a line of LED based LCD-TVs called X5 Elite. These high-end X5 Elite models have now been unveiled. Pricing starts at 6,000 USD.

Sharp and Pioneer has entered into an agreement to let Sharp manufacture TVs under the Pioneer Elite brand that is also used for Pioneer’s receivers, Blu-ray players and speakers. That also gives Sharp access to some of Pioneer’s TV LCD technologies.

The new Elite TVs will be available as high-end models in 60 and 70 inches called Pro-60X5FD and Pro-70X5FD - in exclusive black, brushed aluminium designs. Both models will feature full array LED local dimming and therefore “very low black levels”, according to Sharp. Sharp and Pioneer has simply aimed to create the best TV around.
FlatpanelsHD was first to reveal the Sharp X5 model in April.

Futhermore Sharp and Pioneer aims to bring Internet content to those buyers who are prepared to pay the premium price. A dedicated Netflix button on the remote control is available, alongside access to Vudu, CinemaNow, YouTube, Skype and social media Apps.

The two new Elite TVs will only be available at select high-end retails in the US. European version will be available, too, but with different features. The 60-inch Pro-60X5FD has an MSRP of 5,999 USD, and the 70-inch Pro-70X5FD has an MSRP of 8,499 USD.

Sharp's European X5 models will be unveiled at IFA 2011 in Berlin this September. We will receive the Sharp X5 model for testing later.
