AU Optronics is a proponent of the VA LCD panel technology and they are producing LCD panels for a range of LCD monitors and TVs today. At their official website AUO has revealed two new 120 Hz AMVA panels.

This is the first time that the 120 Hz technology extends beyond the cheaper, inferior TN panels used in most monitors today. 120 Hz panels enable smoother and faster motion reproduction, and the 120 Hz technology is of particular advantage to gaming.

The new 120 Hz AMVA panels are called M240HW02 V5 (24 inches) and M270HW02 V2 (27 inches). The panels also incorporate AUO’s other LCD panel characteristics such as a high 5000:1 static contrast ratio, Full HD and 12 ms response time.

120 Hz VA panels are not expected to be 100 % as fast as 120 Hz TN panels due to the pixel structure but 120 Hz VA panels should provide gamers with a great panel with a good balance between picture quality and speed.

No words on actual products yet but BenQ is using a lot of AUO panels in their monitors so they might lead the race in this area. The panels will most likely go into mass production next year.
