LG unveiled their OLED technology at CES 2012 back in January, and at a large launch event in Monaco LG has unveiled the 55” product that will ship later this year. It will be called 55EM9600 and is just 4 mm thick.

LG has taken the wraps off its 55-inch OLED-TV and the final design is a bit different from what we saw at CES 2012. A new base with a transparent module and inputs comes to light.

The TV is 55 inches large and will be called 55EM9600. It now uses a carbon fiber back that allow LG to remove an additional millimeter of thickness, making it just 4 mm thick. It weighs just 10 kg. The bezel is also slimmer than ever and at the bottom LG’s well-known logo shows.

The TV will feature LG’s complete Smart TV platform with dual core processor and Smart Share Plus. The package also includes the Magic Remote Voice unit that lets users control the TV with gestures and voice commands.

LG has pushed their Cinema 3D technology in LCD-TVs for a few years now, and LG’s OLED-TV will also adopt the passive 3D technology that only requires cheap polarized 3D glasses. OLED technology is significantly faster than LCD and even plasma, and should provide the user with stunning 3D picture qality as well as 2D picture quality.

LG promises to bring their OLED-TV to select markets in the second half of 2012. No official price was shared but an 8000 Euro target was indicated.
