At IFA 2013, Sony has announced that the current X9 4K TVs will be updated to HDMI 2.0 via a firmware update. The firmware update will roll out by the end of 2013.

Sony updates the X9 4K TV with HDMI 2.0
Sony’s X9 TVs launched with HDMI 1.4 that supports 4K resolution in up to 30 Hz. Sony says that X9 will soon support 4K in up to 60 Hz with the update to HDMI 2.0. The firmware update is naturally free.

Sony X9 will be updated to HDMI 2.0 later in 2013 via firmware

Both of the 65 and 55-inch X9 versions will receive the update by the end of 2013, but the 84-inch 4K TV will need a technician to install the HDMI 2.0 update. This physical update will be available before the end fo 2013, too.

HDMI 2.0 was announced earlier today.
