Amid rumors of Samsung putting its OLED TV plans on hold, Samsung is said to release a 4K OLED TV before year’s end, according to ETNews.
Is Samsung in or out?
Rumors in the industry suggest that Samsung has stopped OLED TV production, but according to ETNews Samsung is actually planning to launch a 4K OLED TV later this year.
The mixed signals are difficult to decode, but Samsung said last year that it will take longer to make OLED TVs affordable than previously anticipated. There is no mention of either the size of the 4K OLED TV or price, but we know that Samsung is able to produce 4K OLED TVs as the company has demonstrated this in the past.
On the other hand this could simply be a move to stop LG from running with all the fame - but time will tell. LG currently sells 55-inch OLED TVs for as low as $4000 and will launch 65 and 77-inch OLED TVs later this year.
This is not the first time we hear this rumor. DisplaySearch previously wrote: “Samsung VD decided to try OLED TV again with a 55″ 4K OLED TV. In our view, this is well timed for IFA and a big PR campaign”, but this paragraph has since been removed in their MarketWise update.
If this is true, we should expect to hear more from Samsung at IFA 2014 in Berlin this September. But Samsung will need more than yet another prototype.
