Roku rumored to launch 4K HDR streaming stick this fall

The company will soon add an affordable “Stick” with support for 4K and High Dynamic Range to its line-up for streaming players, according to a report from Zatz Not Funny. A new remote will control your TV.

4K HDR Roku Stick

Roku is believed to be planning several hardware updates later this fall, including an affordable stick capable of delivering 4K resolution and HDR to your TV. These features have in the past been reserved for the more expensive Roku players.

The refreshed Roku Stick will maintain “an elongated stick presentation - versus taking on a more chunky dongle form like Google”, according to the report.

Zatz Not Funny also claims to know that Roku will introduce a revised remote control that can power on, and turn off, your TV. It will include audio volume buttons and is believed to use infrared signals, unlike for example Apple TV that uses HDMI CEC to control a TV.

Roku 2017 remote

- “On the lower-end, the 2017 Roku Express will see a significant performance bump,” Dave Zatz added.

Several players have over the last year introduced products based on the 4K HDR foundation, with the new Apple TV 4K box being the latest addition. Amazon is also rumored to launch refreshed 4K HDR capable streaming players in the near future.

The new Roku players are expected to launch later this fall.
