2018 marks the 25th anniversary for Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park. The movies have been remastered in 4K HDR and will be released in the format on May 22.
25th Anniversary Edition
Hollywood is gearing up to release lots of catalog titles in 4K HDR. We already have the full Harry Potter octalogy, the Christopher Nolan Collection, and the Transformers pentalogy, and we can expect to see many more collections released throughout 2018 and beyond.
In May, you can get your hands on remastered versions of the four Jurassic Park movies:
Jurassic Park (1993)
The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997)
Jurassic Park III (2001)
Jurassic World (2015)
Steven Spielberg adapted the universe from Michael Crichton’s thriller and the first movie was released 25 years ago in 1993. To mark the anniversary – and to help create buzz for the fifth movie – Universal will release an 8-disc boxset on UHD Blu-ray.
The first three movies were shot on 35mm film. Universal has confirmed that it recently made a new 4K scan of the original Jurassic Park but has not detailed the other movies. Special effects were rendered in 2K. It appears that the UHD Blu-ray boxset will offer HDR10 format and 7.1 DTS-HD MA audio.
The ‘Jurassic Park 25th Anniversary Collection’ will be released on UHD Blu-ray on May 22 and can be pre-ordered on amazon.com. It has not yet been confirmed in 4K HDR for online release on iTunes, Vudu, and other services but we suspect that it will arrive sooner rather than later.
The fifth movie in the series (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom) will premiere June 2018, with a sixth movie planned for 2021.
