LG’s 2019 OLED and flagship LCD TVs will be ‘WiSA Ready’, the company has announced. WiSA is a system for wireless, uncompressed audio that supports up to 8 channels, including Dolby Atmos and DTS:X.
LG 2019 TVs are WiSA Ready
In September 2018, the Wireless Speaker and Audio Association (WiSA) announced a ‘WiSA Ready’ certification program for TVs, game consoles, computers, and other type of products. LG Electronics will be the first major TV brands to join.
LG confirms that its 2019 line-up of OLED and flagship LCD TVs – a total of 9 new TV ranges – will be ‘WiSA Ready’. What this means is that the user can buy an optional WiSA USB transmitter and connect it to the TV. This will enable the TV to “deliver unprecedented wireless sound” to WiSA-compatible speakers from the likes of Bang & Olufsen, Harman Kardon, and Klipsch. All WiSA certified products work together.
- “Intelligent TVs are the centerpiece of today’s next generation home entertainment systems and audio is essential to the overall experience,” said Tim Alessi, senior director, product marketing at LG Electronics. “With WiSA Ready displays, we recognize the tremendous benefits that consumers will enjoy in taking advantage of truly immersive, wireless sound that complements all kinds of big screen home entertainment from movies and video to games, esports, and more.”
WiSA supports Dolby Atmos & DTS:X
WiSA operates in the relatively uncongested 5.2-5.8 GHz frequency band and is said to have less than 5 ms latency for 24-bit uncompressed audio sources.
WiSA supports “up to 8 channels of uncompressed 24-bit audio capable of supporting the latest audio decode formats, including Dolby Atmos and DTS:X”, said Summit Wireless Technologies who is a founding member of WiSA and LG's technology partner.
- “WiSA Ready LG TVs are an integral part of our delivering next generation audio to a mass, global market with seamless compatibilities and ease of setup,” said Brett Moyer, president of Summit Wireless Technologies.
LG’s line-up of 2019 TVs will be unveiled at CES 2019 in January.
