James Bond coming to UHD Blu-ray with 'Daniel Craig Collection'

24 Sep 2019 | Rasmus Larsen |

MGM and 20th Century Fox have announced that four James Bond films starring Daniel Craig as 007 will be released on UHD Blu-ray in Dolby Vision.

James Bond in 4K Dolby Vision

The entire James Bond collection spanning Connery to Craig is already available to stream in 4K resolution from Apple iTunes but this is the first time that HDR in any form is added to the mix. The Daniel Craig Collection, comprising Casino Royale, Quantum Of Solace, Skyfall and Spectre, will be available on UHD Blu-ray in 4K and Dolby Vision HDR. The audio side will be in 5.1 DTS-HD (7.1 DTS-HD for Spectre). There is no Dolby Atmos or DTS:X included. The package includes 4 UHD Blu-ray discs and 4 Blu-ray discs. - "Today Metro Goldwyn Mayer (MGM) and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment announced The Daniel Craig Collection, the complete collection of the four James Bond films starring Daniel Craig as 007, which will be available for the first time on 4K Blu-ray in Dolby Vision," the companies said.

Daniel Craig Collection

These are the first James Bond titles to be released on UHD Blu-ray and it is worth noting that these are also 20th Century Fox's first UHD Blu-rays to use Dolby Vision without an accompanying HDR10+ version. The discs also offer HDR10. 20th Century Fox was, together with Samsung and Panasonic, a founding member of the HDR10+ alliancen formed as a front against Dolby Vision. Daniel Craig is currently in production on his fifth Bond movie titled No Time to Die, which will premiere in April 2020. There is no word on the other films but the fact that they are already available in 4K - from 4K masters made years ago - on iTunes makes us optimistic that they will reach UHD Blu-ray at some point in the near future. Fingers crossed. The Daniel Craig Collection will be released on October 22, 2019, in the US and is available for pre-order for $55. In Europe, it will be released on November 11, 2019, for £60 (UK) or €80.
