With X10, TCL is launching its first LCD TV with an advanced zone-dimming miniLED backlight. It also features 4K resolution and Android.

First step for TCL's miniLED
A little under 2500 Euro. That is how much TCL is asking for its new 65-inch LCD flagship TV. The original plan was to launch X10 in Europe in late 2019 but it got delayed.

TCL X10 is a high-end TV designed to challenge Samsung's "QLED" LCD TVs as well as OLED TVs from various manufacturers. The use of smaller miniLEDs allows TCL to increase the number of dimming zones behind the LCD panel for more granular control of the backlight. The TVs also comes with 4K resolution and support for HDR (HDR10, HDR10+, HLG and Dolby Vision), an expanded range of luminance and colors.

The technology was first launched in a TV last year with TCL's 8-series in the US. In North America, TCL is using Roku, whereas it is using Android TV in Europe. After a few false starts, TCL hopes that X10 can help it capture a slice of the high-end segment. X10 also represents the company's first step for miniLED. The next phase of miniLED - an active matrix with more dimming zones - will launch later in 2020, the company said at CES last month.



TCL's X10 is equipped with a 40W soundbar developed by Onkyo. Since it is an Android TV, users also get built-in Chromecast along with access to apps and games via the Google Play store.

On the other hand X10 lacks HDMI 2.1 ports and features. TCL will launch its first TVs with HDMI 2.1 capabilities later this year.

TCL X10 is available only in 65 inches and is rolling out to select European countries over the coming weeks.
