Apple TV+ coming to Comcast and Sky TVs, set-top boxes

29 Oct 2021 | Rasmus Larsen |

Apple TV+ is coming to Comcast's Xfinity X1, Xfinity Flex and upcoming XClass TVs as well as the new Sky Glass TVs and Sky Q set-top boxes.

Apple TV+ expansion

The deal is Apple's first with a traditional broadcast TV provider. The app is coming to both Comcast and Sky devices later this year (Sky is owned by Comcast) to let you watch shows like Ted Lasso, The Morning Show and Slow Horses. The news was announced by Comcast CEO Brian Roberts during the company's earnings call. Sky subsequently made its own announcement. - "Sky and Apple today announced a new long-term agreement that will see Apple TV+ launch on Sky Glass and Sky Q later this year, while NOW brings integrated billing and in-app purchases across iOS and tvOS," announced Sky. "Customers in the UK will be able to access Sky Go on Apple TV devices in the first half of 2022."

The Sky Glass TV

Comcast and Sky refer to Apple TV+ so it is unclear if the app will also provide access to the iTunes movie library and Apple TV channels. There is no word on 4K HDR and Dolby Atmos support either. The Sky deal covers the UK, Ireland, Germany, Austria and Italy. Comcast's Stream app will also launch on the Apple TV boxes (tvOS) in the near future. - Source: Comcast, Sky
