First launched in late 2020, Samsung's "smart" monitors combine conventional PC monitor features with connectivity features known from TVs including Tizen-powered streaming apps, Apple AirPlay 2, and Microsoft 365 cloud services. - "Not only being a traditional monitor, but the M8 also allows users to enjoy a variety of OTT services, including Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+ and Apple TV via Wi-Fi without having to connect to a PC or TV," said Samsung.

The refreshed M8 line-up is about three-quarters thinner (11.4mm) than the previous models, with a flat-back design. They are available in white, pink, blue, and green. The bundled camera offers 1080p resolution. Other than the smart features, these are fairly conventional LCD monitors designed for casual desktop tasks. The M8 is a 32-inch VA LCD panel with 60Hz refresh rate, 4ms response time, and 400 nits maximum brightness. They support HDR10+ on paper but do not have the hardware to deliver HDR pictures. Samsung will also launch less capable and more affordable M7 and M5 smart monitors in 27 to 43 inches.

- "We aspired to create a product capable of matching the lifestyles of all kinds of people and preferences," said Kyounghoon Kim, EVP and Head of Design Team, Visual Display Business, Samsung Electronics. "The M8’s color palette composed of four different colors was inspired by the theme ‘Shades of Nature’. Gazing at the clear blue sky on a bright sunny day, recharging in the lush green forest, or finally bathing in the glow of a sunset." Samsung said that the Smart Monitor M8 is available now for pre-order globally for around $700.
