First outdoor Roku TV launched

23 May 2022 | Rasmus Larsen |

Element has launched a cheaper alternative to Samsung's outdoor TV, The Terrace, in the form of a 4K LCD TV running Roku OS.

The 55-inch TV delivers 700 nits brightness, which is "two and a half times brighter" than a typical 4K LCD TV. It is suitable for outdoor use even during daytime, according to Roku. In addition, it comes with a safety front glass and special anti-glare filter designed to offset the impact of bright sunlight.

- "Introducing the Outdoor Element Roku TV – the world’s first outdoor Roku TV! If you love spending time outdoors, and want to take your favorite entertainment with you, then this TV is for you. Designed with outdoor use in mind, this Patio Series TV can handle everything from the summer’s sun to the winter’s cold. And with the Roku OS built-in, this could be the new centerpiece of your outdoor oasis," said Tom McFarland, Business Development Director at Roku.

The TV is made from a weather-resistant metal and is specified to work at and operating temperature from -4°F to 104°F. Roku said that it can "handle rain, snow, sprinklers, splashing, humidity, or whatever else the environment has to throw at it". With Roku OS users have access to streaming services such as Amazon, Disney+, HBO Max, Netflix and YouTube. It also supports HDR10. Samsung launched an outdoor called The Terrace in 2020. Samsung's version came with a $3500 price tag. Element's outdoor Roku TV is priced significantly lower. Element's outdoor Roku TV is available now for $1300 at Walmart in the US.
