Will Smith has steered clear of the public eye since slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars in March. Apple will bring him back to the fore with the release of Emancipation.
The upcoming film about a man (Smith) who escapes from slavery will premiere in theaters on December 2 and globally on Apple TV+ on Friday, December 9, 2022.
Hollywood news outlets previously reported that Apple had delayed the movie to 2023 due to the Oscars slap but apparently the company now feels that it is time to give Will Smith another chance.
Apple TV+ became the first streaming service to win an Oscar for Best Picture with CODAlast year and Apple Studios is becoming a force to be reckoned with in Hollywood. Emancipation is expected to also be an Oscars contender but even if it wins next year Smith will not be there to accept the award. He has been barred from attenting the Oscars for 10 years.
After releasing movies such as CODA, The Tragedy of Macbeth, Greyhound and Wolfwalkers, Apple TV+ is planning to follow up Emancipation with Scorsese and DiCaprio's Killers of the Flower Moon in 2023.
Apple TV+ movies are always available to stream in 4K Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos.
