Dell's 32" U3224KB is the first 6K monitor with an 'IPS Black' LCD panel

The 32-inch Dell U3224KB is the first monitor to combine 6K resolution with an 'IPS Black' LCD panel with improved black levels. The company also announced two USB-C Hub monitors.

After launching the first 8K monitor in 2017, Dell has announced at CES 2023 that it will expand its line-up to include a 6K monitor (6144x3456 pixels). It is a more affordable alternative to Apple's 6K LCD monitor, but it does not have the hardware to deliver HDR.

- "Dell ups the ante with another game changer in display innovation with the world’s first 6K-resolution monitor with IPS Black panel technology that provides higher contrast and deeper blacks. Fully compatible with both Windows and Mac operating systems, the Dell UltraSharp 32 6K Monitor (U3224KB) raises the bar with exceptional details, sharpness and color accuracy in stunning 6K resolution and VESA DisplayHDR 600 for detail-oriented professionals like graphic designers, engineers and data scientists where every pixel counts," said Yoon Lee, VP og Monitors, Dell Technologies.

What is IPS Black?

The IPS Black LCD panel, produced by LG Display, is an improved version of the classic IPS LCD panel that has historically offered wide viewing angles but poor contrast and black levels. Dell claims that IPS Black delivers "41% deeper blacks and up to 1.4 times higher contrast ratio". IPS Black's contrast ratio is specified as 2000:1 so it is still not matching VA LCD, and is not anywhere close to OLED.

USB-C Hub monitors

In addition, Dell announced U3423WE which is a 34-inch WQHD (3440x1440) curved USB-C Hub monitor, also with IPS Black, as well as U4323QE which is a 43-inch 4K USB-C Hub monitor. Dell's 6K Monitor (U3224KB) will be available in Q2 2023 and the price will be announced later. The 34-inch curved U3423WE and 43-inch U4323QE USB-C Hub monitors will both be available on January 31, 2023, for $1260 and $1330, respectively.
