LG's new "revolutionary" M3 OLED TV features a wireless Zero Connect box

04 Jan 2023 | Rasmus Larsen |

LG has today introduced a new super high-end OLED TV called Signature M3. It is the company's first TV with 'Zero Connect', a wireless solution for video and audio.

In addition to A3, B3, C3, G3 and Z3 OLED TVs, LG will launch M3 as part of its 2023 line-up. At launch, it will only be available in 97 inches but represents a "revolutionary" step for TV flexibility, says LG.

The separate Zero Connect box transmits audio and video wirelessly in up to 4K120 to the 97-inch OLED display. It is the first of its kind, according to LG. It differs from Samsung's external One Connect box by being wireless. A power cable is still required to both the TV and box, though, unlike Displace's wireless OLED TV that is battery-powered. - "The revolutionary new OLED TV M3 delivers superior picture and sound quality as well as greater flexibility to install and connect. LG’s wireless solution leverages state-of-the-art technologies to provide reliable video and audio transmission to the M3’s self-lit OLED screen – allowing users to enjoy content at 4K 120Hz, and clear, crisp sound, without interruption or degradation of quality," the company said.

- "To ensure the seamless transfer of data from the box to the TV, the company developed an algorithm that instantly identifies the optimal transmission path. The algorithm also helps to minimize transmission errors or disruptions as it can recognize changes in the immediate environment – such as people or pets moving around the room – and switch paths accordingly. Additionally, for maximum signal strength, the box’s antenna can be easily rotated and/or tilted to align with the TV’s location." LG says that the wireless range is 10 meters.

The box can be placed away from the TV and comes with multiple ports including HDMI 2.1. It can also connect wirelessly to compatible soundbars. As for the 97-inch OLED screen it is fitted with an integrated bracket that sits flush against the wall. LG refers to it as the 'One Wall Design' and one might see M3 as a spiritual successor to the 'wallpaper' OLED W-series that LG has discontinued. The W-series came with a soundbar with all ports built in that connected to the TV via a single cable.

What the 97-inch M3 lacks is the next-gen WOLED panel found in smaller sizes of the LG G3 which FlatpanelsHD's sources confirm uses MLA (Micro Lens Array) technology for the first time in a TV. The company has not said how much the 97-inch M3 will cost but our guess is that it will be very expensive considering that the company's current 97-inch G2 has a list price of 25000 Euro / USD.
