Samsung planning to also launch 77" S89C OLED TV with LG panel

In addition to the already announced 83-inch S90C, Samsung is planning to launch a 77-inch S89C with an OLED panel from LG Display. The new TV has already received certification.

Samsung Electronics and LG Display's OLED partnership, which was signed in May 2023, will apparently cover multiple sizes of OLED panels – something that early reports alluded to. Under the agreement, LG Display will supply OLED TV panels for use in Samsung TVs.

As reported by Korean newspaper Business Korea, Samsung Electronics has now completed registration of 77-inch OLED TV called KQ77SC89A, a new S89C range. Radio certification is required before a TV can be manufactured and sold.

Assembly will, according to the certificate, happen in Slovakia, Mexico, Vietnam, Hungary, China, and Korea so the 77-inch Samsung S89C (or S85C?) is expected to launch widely across the Americas, Europa, Asia, and other regions to compete with existing 77-inch OLED TVs from LG, Sony, Panasonic, Philips, and others.

It will feature a WOLED panel from LG Display, just like the recently announced 83-inch S90C. Selling it as S89C makes a more sense as S90C now uses a mix of QD-OLED and WOLED, depending on the size.

The official word on Samsung's 83-inch OLED TV came not long after radio certification so the announcement of the 77-inch is most likely imminent, too.

Alliance will expand to LCD panels

Consumers should expect to also see more IPS LCD panels in Samsung LCD TVs in the near future, according to Business Korea. - "The alliance with LG Display is expected to expand to LCDs due to a patent dispute between Samsung Electronics and BOE of China," reported Business Korea. "As a result, LG Display’s share of Samsung Electronics’ LCD panel volume is expected to increase to 17 percent from 7 percent." It was previously reported that LG Display will significantly increase supply of OLED panels to Samsung Electronics in 2024. - Source: Business Korea, RRA
