LG USA changes its OLED monitor warranty to include burn-in

11 Aug 2023 | Rasmus Larsen |

LG is finally covering burn-in on OLED monitors due to normal use, including Windows desktop use, under its 2-year warranty in the US, according to The Verge.

LG used to explicitly exclude burn-in from its OLED monitor warranty but the company has now changed its mind.

- "But after four months of conversations with The Verge, LG Electronics has changed that warranty. LG now has a two-year burn-in warranty for its OLED gaming monitor in the US, Christopher De Maria, LG’s head of consumer PR for North America, tells The Verge."

LG has not made a similar announcement for Europe or other regions but FlatpanelsHD is following up on the matter to see if anything has changed.

Covers normal use

Burn-in is rare and significant improvements have been made to OLED panels since the launch of the first OLED TVs over 10 years ago. Still, it can happen during the product's lifetime under some circumstances. The new 2-year warranty covers both new and existing LG 27GR95QE-B OLED monitors, and it covers burn-in under "normal use". - "Normal use means the product is used for what it was created to do. In this case that is gaming (professional and casual) as well as desktop computing such as Windows, etc," Christopher De Maria, LG’s head of consumer PR for North America, clarified to The Verge.

The others

The Verge also spoke to the two suppliers of WOLED / QD-OLED monitor panels, LG Display and Samsung Display, as well as other manufacturers. LG Display and Samsung Display provide a burn-in warranty to monitor manufacturers but it is up to each monitor manufacturer to decide if they want to pass that along to the consumer. Acer and Asus do not cover burn-in under their monitor warranty. Dell (Alienware), Corsair and Dough do. - Source: The Verge
