Redesigned Xbox Series X 2TB without a disc drive leaked

19 Sep 2023 | Rasmus Larsen |

Microsoft is planning to launch a redesigned and upgraded Xbox Series X console in 2024, codenamed Brooklin, as well as a new controller and a new Xbox Series S.

Microsoft's documents, which were supposed to be kept secret as part of the FTC v. Microsoft case, detail the roadmap for new Xbox consoles.

The leak details a refreshed Xbox Series S in September 2024 and a redesigned Xbox Series X in November 2024, as reported by The Verge.

The documents also reveal a redesigned and upgraded Xbox controller, codenamed Sebille, that will include an accelerometer for motion features. It will connect to the Xbox console over a local link but also be capable of connecting directly to the cloud for Xbox game streaming. It switches to a rechargeable battery.

The 2024 Xbox Series X will be redesigned in a cylindrical form but most notably it will omit the disc drive found in the current Xbox Series X. The 'all-digital' Xbox Series X will feature 2TB of storage, a USB-C front port, WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2, while the chip will transition to a 6nm node for improved efficiency. It is still expected to cost $499. As for the new Xbox Series S, this sounds a little more confusing as Microsoft has just launched a black Series S with 1TB. The new one coming in 2024 will apparently be white and still feature 1TB of storage, but also include WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, and an improved standby mode.
