Like Disney+, Max and Netflix, Amazon Prime Video will start to place ads in movies and TV shows. You will have to pay extra to avoid ads.

The change was announced today by Amazon.

- "To continue investing in compelling content and keep increasing that investment over a long period of time, starting in early 2024, Prime Video shows and movies will include limited advertisements. We aim to have meaningfully fewer ads than linear TV and other streaming TV providers," announced Amazon.

Ads on Amazon Prime Video will be introduced first in the US, UK, Germany, and Canada early next year. The roll-out will continue in France, Italy, Spain, Mexico, and Australia later in 2024. A timeline for other regions was not announced.


Pay extra to avoid ads
Amazon paints it as if the price is not going up, but the product will obviously get worse when you have to endure ad breaks.

Going forward, you will have to pay extra to avoid ads on Prime Video.

- "We're not making changes in 2024 to the current price of Prime membership. We will also offer a new ad-free option for an additional $2.99 per month for U.S. Prime members and will share pricing for other countries at a later date," said Amazon.

Live event content such as sports will continue to include advertising even if you pay extra.
