HDR10+ Gaming gains momentum with 'Call of Duty', 'Cyberpunk 2077'

18 Dec 2023 | Rasmus Larsen |

After announcing the first game in the HDR10+ format in August, the industry group has confirmed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 are now available in HDR10+.

While most HDR games today are offered in the base HDR10 format, we are starting to see more releases in the premium Dolby Vision HDR format. HDR10+ has been lagging behind.

In October, FlatpanelsHD told you to expect and influx of games in the coming years due to Unreal Engine adding support, and now the first major game titles in HDR10+ are available.

- "The use of HDR10+ technologies has grown exponentially to fully encompass a variety of platforms and providers," said Bill Mandel, co-manager of HDR10+ Technologies. "Now with the availability of plug-in cards from NVIDIA, game studios and developers can also realize the full benefits of HDR10+ Gaming on certified monitors and televisions."

Call of Duty and Cyberpunk 2077

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 was released in HDR10+ on November 9, 2023, with an updated user interface in HDR10+ coming in early 2024. Cyberpunk 2077 and Phantom Liberty were released in HDR10+ on December 5, 2023. - "HDR10+ elevates the color experience in Cyberpunk 2077 to an entirely new level. Our engine harnesses HDR10+ technology, along with the full capabilities of compatible screens, to produce frames calibrated specifically for each individual monitor. This ensures the best performance on all HDR10+ supported hardware," said Przemek Czatrowski, Engineering Manager, Rendering at CD Projekt Red.

HDR10+ Gaming

Supported on PCs

Game consoles do not currently support HDR10+, so for now the games are playable in HDR10+ only on PCs. Like Dolby Vision Gaming, HDR10+ Gaming supports automatic HDR calibration between the game and TV display, VRR, and 4K 120Hz. Your TV or monitor must also support these formats.

More HDR10+ games in 2024

The First Descendant, which is currently in beta, will be released publicly in summer 2024 in HDR10+. The HDR10+ group stated that these titles "are just the first in a series of new games that are expected to be announced during 2024".
