LG's first wireless transparent OLED TV also has an opaque mode

LG Electronics has at CES 2024 unveiled the OLED T, a 77-inch transparent 4K OLED TV with a contrast mode for normal TV viewing, an always-on mode, and wireless transmission.
Update: A video of the LG OLED TV shot by FlatpanelsHD has been uploaded to the bottom of the article.
The company has previously exhibited various prototypes but this one is an actual product that will be known as the T model, joining this year's B4, C4, G4 and M4 models.

LG says that it is the "world’s first wireless transparent OLED TV". It will be part of LG's Signature range, so despite LG not providing any firm pricing estimates we can expect it to be expensive when it launches. It will be available in 77 inches only, powered by LG's new Alpha 11 processor. The OLED panel is transparent but LG explains that there is a contrast mode that can be raised with the click of a button, turning it into a more conventional TV. - "An incredible feat of consumer-driven innovation, LG SIGNATURE OLED T offers brand-new screen experiences plus the picture quality and performance of our award- winning OLED technology," said Park Hyoung-sei, president of the LG HE Company. "LG’s transparent OLED gives customers greater freedom to curate their living spaces, completely redefining what’s possible and pointing the way to an exciting future for the television industry."

LG believes that the transparent screen will appeal to design-concious households as it allows new placement options and "liberates users from a dominant black screen that competes with the décor in their home". It can stand alone and hang on the wall. There are also flexible shelve options available.

Wireless and always-on mode

The wireless technology is similar to the one found in LG's M4 (and last year's M3) meaning that there is a separate 'Zero Connect' box with inputs. You connect all cables to this box which wirelessly transmits video and audio to the TV display with very low latency. However, the TV obviously still needs a power cable. When operating as a transparent TV there is an always-on feature to display visual effects and widgets. - "LG’s transparent OLED lets owners discover new forms of entertainment and use via its dual viewing experiences: transparent and opaque. The OLED T becomes a transparent digital canvas for showcasing artwork, videos or photos with the Always-On-Display (AOD) feature. Content displayed on the transparent screen appears to float in air, yet simultaneously fuses with the surrounding space to create a compelling and atmospheric visual effect. Another option is the T-Bar feature that offers a helpful info-ticker running along the lower part of the screen," explained LG. LG did not announced availability or pricing details.
