TCL unveils 2024 TVs; QM851G features up to 5000 zones, 5000 nits

08 Jan 2024 | Rasmus Larsen |

TCL has unveiled its 2024 TV lineup for North America, where it will launch the flagship QM851G in up to 98 inches, QM751G with miniLED, and more new ranges.

Today at CES 2024 in Las Vegas, TCL announced its plans for 2024 that continue in the direction the company set out for 2023 with "bigger, better" in the Q ranges plus affordable S ranges.

TCL said that it had a fantastic 2023 in North America where it remained a top-2 TV brand (by units). Sales of 98-inch TVs were up 600% in 2023, it noted.

- "Last year was extremely successful for TCL as we maintained our position as top 2 best-selling TV brand in the US for the fifth consecutive year. TCL also achieved top 2 best-selling TV brand in the premium segment of QLED TVs in 2023, and 2024 is planned to be even more positive as we continue to raise the bar with innovation," said Chris Hamdorf, SVP of TCL North America. "TCL will roll out our biggest screen size ever, and we will upgrade our line with more choices in both 98” TVs and Mini LED TVs to meet consumer demand. We will continue to provide unmatched value for the consumer and our high-performance products will be second to none."

TCL had already announced 2024 TV models for Europe.

2024 miniLED LCD flagship

TCL will this year launch the affordable S551G (60Hz) in 43 to 85 inches, the mid-range Q651G (60Hz) in 43 to 98 inches, Q651G-Pro in 55 to 85 inches, QM751G in 55 to 98 inches, and the flagship QM851G in 65–98 inches. QM851G mirrors TCL Europe's X955 with more than 5000 miniLED dimming zones and 5000 nits peak brightness in 98 inches. If it corresponds fully to its European counterpart, the exact number is 5184 zones in both 85 and 98 inches, and you can read FlatpanelsHD's first-look report (with measurements) here.

QM851G represents one of the most advanced miniLED LCD TVs to date, competing head-to-head with Samsung's most expensive "Neo QLED" LCDs, Hisense's "ULED" LCDs, and Sony's flagship miniLED LCDs. The company said that QM851G also features an upgraded 'AIPQ Pro' processor, a 144Hz VA LCD panel, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision IQ, IMAX Enhanced, HDMI 2.1 with 4K120 and VRR, Game Accelerator 240 (for 240Hz gaming at half resolution), an anti-glare coating, a 2.1.2-channel speaker system, ATSC 3.0 tuners, and WiFi 6. Other new features for 2024 include an 'Enhanced Dialog' mode for enhanced dialog in movies and TV programs, 'TV as Center Mode' integration with 2024 TCL soundbars, and a 'Hospitality Mode'. The company added that the design of the TVs is streamlined. FlatpanelsHD will report back if we get a chance to see the TVs in action at CES 2024.

TCL's other 2024 models

TCL's step-down model, QM751G, features miniLED zone dimming with up to 1300 zones in the largest sizes and up to 2000 nits peak brightness. It too will feature HDR10+ and Dolby Vision IQ, the 'AIPQ Pro' processor, and Game Accelerator 240.

Stepping down to the Q651G-Pro gives you conventional local dimming (FALD) while Q651G features a standard LED backlight, although with higher brightness this year. In TCL's 6-series, only the 85 and 98 inch models feature 120Hz LCD panels. More details on all of the models can be in the TV Database for QM851G here, QM751G here, Q651G-Pro here and Q651G here, and S551G here, or by clicking the model name in the table below. In the TV Database you can also compare features side-by-side by using the orange icon. And then there is the even more premium 115-inch QM891G, which you can learn more about here. All of the new models run Google TV (the 'G' in the model name), but TCL may add some Roku and Fire TV models to its line-up later this year. Last year's entry-level S350 and S250 ranges will carry over into 2024. Pricing and availability details will be announced later.
