LG Electronics has confirmed to FlatpanelsHD that Chromecast will be part of the webOS upgrade coming to OLED TVs from 2022 and most likely 2023.

As reported earlier, LG will finally start upgrading webOS in TVs after the time of purchase. Here is what LG said:

- "In early 2024, the webOS Re:New program will bring the latest webOS upgrade to every model in LG’s 2022 OLED TV lineup, LG OLED Flex, LG OLED Objet Collection Posé, as well as LG’s 2022 QNED Mini LED 8K (QNED99/95 series), promising users the joy of a new TV experience for the next five years. This upgrade will be extended to more LG TVs worldwide in the future to add more entertainment and versatility to the TV experience across the world."


Chromecast included
At CES 2024, FlatpanelsHD confirmed with the company that the webOS upgrade for 2022 OLED models will also include Chromecast, a software feature that, in terms of hardware, requires WiFi.

This is great news for owners of LG's 2022 OLED models; A2, B2, C2, CS, G2 and Z2. Chromecast allows you to share video, music and other media content from a smartphone, tablet or PC onto the TV screen. LG TVs already support Apple's cast system, AirPlay.

The company did not explicitly confirm that it applies to 2023 OLED models too, but we expect that to be the case.

Speaking of webOS upgrades, LG also confirmed to FlatpanelsHD that the 2022 models will receive four webOS platform upgrades. We interpret this to mean that they started on webOS 22 and will get webOS 24 this year, webOS 25 next year, and finally webOS 26 in 2026. LG told us to expect some delay in the webOS upgrade for older models each year, compared to new models, to help iron out any potential software bugs.
