First OLED monitor with DisplayPort 2.1 (UHBR20) unveiled by Gigabyte

Between all the new OLED monitors announced at CES 2024, Gigabyte's 32-inch FO32U2P is seemingly to first and only to support DisplayPort 2.1's maximum bandwidth.

The 32-inch Gigabyte FO32U2P monitor features Samsung Display's QD-OLED panel with 4K resolution and 240Hz refresh rate, just like many other new OLED monitors unveiled at CES 2024.

But unlike the other new OLED monitors, it supports DisplayPort 2.1's maximum bandwidth specification, so-called UHBR20.

- "Among the lineup, the star of CES 2024 is the 32-inch AORUS FO32U2P, showcasing cutting-edge features. As the world's first DP 2.1 UHBR20 tactical gaming monitor, it offers an impressive 80 Gbps bandwidth without Display Stream Compression (DSC), providing an authentic gaming experience with 2.5 times more bandwidth than the previous DP 1.4 HBR3," announced Gigabyte. Next challenge is to find a graphic card with support for UHBR20 over DisplayPort 2.1. At this time, they do not exist outside the professional space, but seeing that Gigabyte is planning launch FO32U2P later this year maybe it is expecting that situation to change soon. Also read: DisplayPort 2.1a allows for longer cables To be clear, 4K 240Hz is already supported over a conventional DisplayPort 1.4 connection but it requires the use of DSC (Display Stream Compression) that is said to be visually lossless, although this is still up for debate.

Gigabyte's other OLED monitors

Gigabyte will also launch an alternative version called FO32U2. It is the same 32-inch 4K QD-OLED monitor, just with HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 1.4 instead. In addition, Gigabyte is planning to launch the 27-inch FO27Q3 which features a QD-OLED panel with 1440p resolution and 360Hz refresh rate. Again, this is the same panel found in other 27-inch QD-OLED monitors announced at CES 2024 and here Gigabyte does not have any "exclusives". Lastly, there is the 34-inch MO34WQC2, a 21:9 ultrawide and curved OLED monitor with 3440x1440 resolution and 240Hz refresh rate. It features HDMI 2.1 and good old DisplayPort 1.4. It will also exist as a MO34WQC version but we are not sure what the exact difference is. The monitors all support HDR10 as well as "a suite of AI-driven solutions addressing image retention concerns and automated panel-protecting features", which most likely the safeguards built into the actual panels by Samsung Display. The new OLED monitors will be available later this year. Full specifications and pricing details will be announced later.
