As of March 2024, you will no longer be able to use Google's voice assistant on your Samsung TV, even if it came with the feature pre-installed.
Google Assistant came pre-installed on Samsung Smart TVs from 2022, 2021, and 2020, while 2019 models only supported Google Assistant via an external device. Samsung started phasing it out with its 2023 TV line-up, and soon the feature will also be removed on older models.
- "Important: Due to a change in Google’s policy, Google Assistant will no longer be available on Samsung TVs beginning March 1st, 2024," Samsung announced on a support site, as spotted by the webpage Samsung Community.
Google Assistant lives on
For now, Google Assistant lives on in TVs from other brands as well as all Android TV and Google TV devices.
Google is developing a new generative AI language model, Gemini, but it is not clear at this time how or if Google Assistant ties into that project.
Samsung has its own voice assistant, Bixby, but it is not widely supported due to limited language support. Samsung TVs are also compatible with Amazon Alexa via an external Alexa device.
