More Google features being removed from Samsung Smart TVs

14 Feb 2024 | Rasmus Larsen |

After the removal of the Google Play Movies app and Google Assistant next month, Google's video conferencing app, Google Meet, will also be removed from Samsung Smart TVs.
Update 15.2.2024: Cameras and doorbells from Ring will also stop working on 2018-2021 Samsung Smart TVs as of February 13, 2024, Samsung has confirmed on its support page.
Google Meet, formerly known as Duo, was introduced in October 2022 on 2021–2022 Samsung Smart TVs, and later extended to the 2023 TV models as well. The app was also made available on Samsung's Tizen-based smart monitors.

Less than one and a half years after launch, Google Meet is being removed again from all Samsung display products, as reported by SamMobile. The app will cease to function on March 9, 2024, according to a notification within the app. Samsung's support page for Google Meet has also been taken down.

Google out of Samsung TVs

The news follows the confirmation that Google Assistant will be removed from all Samsung Smart TVs on March 1, 2024. These events appear to be related, suggesting that Google is deliberately discontinuing support for its services on Samsung Smart TVs. The Google Play Movies app was removed from Smart TVs a couple of years ago. SamMobile speculates that the decision is made by Google to focus on Android TV and Google TV instead. Using Google Meet on Samsung Smart TVs required users to purchase an optional Samsung Slim Fit camera.
