The new IMAX app for Apple Vision Pro replicates the IMAX cinema experience, now offering a selection of 3D documentary movies.
Update: IMAX has also added trailers for upcoming theatrical releases in what it calls your "state-of-the-art, private 1.43:1 theatre".
According to users on Reddit, the first titles were added this week. Currently, A Beautiful Planet, Pandas, and Superpower Dogs are available in 3D.
These documentary movies are well-known for their screenings in museums with IMAX screens and can now be rented for $5 through the IMAX app for Apple Vision Pro.

Like some of the 2D movies available in the new IMAX app on Apple Vision Pro, the 3D documentaries are presented in IMAX's taller 1.43:1 aspect ratio, when available.
Apple Vision Pro can present content in any aspect ratio without black bars on its virtual screens that can be made extremely large. Specifically for the IMAX app, you can sit front, middle or back row in a virtual cinema environment.
3D is making a comeback
IMAX is the third app to add 3D content on Apple Vision Pro, following the Apple TV app and Disney+. For the first time, 3D movies are available at home in not just 4K resolution but also Dolby Vision and High Frame Rate (48fps).
FlatpanelsHD recently launched the 3D movie database. At the time of writing, 231 3D titles are available from the Apple TV app.

The next step could be to make theatrical IMAX 3D movies available, although there are no indications of this happening right now.
