Despite its focus on miniLED LCDs, Hisense continues to offer superior OLED TVs. This year's A85N features an upgraded WOLED panel, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision, starting at €1600.
In a pre-IFA announcement, Hisense revealed that the A85N, the 4K OLED successor to last year's A85K, will be available in 55 and 65-inch sizes starting in September in Europe.
This is noteworthy as Hisense is a founding member of the QLED alliance, which was established in 2017 as a front against OLED technology. Hisense has since switched its marketing focus to "miniLED", which – like "QLED" – relies on traditional LCD panels.
1000 nits peak brightness
The Hisense A85N is built on the 2024 WOLED panel from LG Display. Hisense claims it delivers 1000 nits peak brightness, a claim we are inclined to believe since the LG C4 reaches 1100 nits.
Hisense also emphasized the A85N's support for multiple HDR (HDR10, HDR10+, HLG, Dolby Vision IQ), IMAX Enhanced, Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, Filmmaker Mode, and various HDMI 2.1 features including ALLM and VRR for gaming. However, only two of the HDMI ports support HDMI 2.1 bandwidth.
Since the A85N is intended for Europe, it comes with Hisense's proprietary Vidaa operating system, now in version 7.6. Vidaa offers access to most popular international streaming apps but lacks certain local apps. The A85N is equipped with a swivel stand.
Hisense confirmed that A85N will be available in Germany in 55 and 65-inch sizes for €1600 and €2200, respectively, with a cashback launch campaign starting on September 2. The model will also be available in other European countries, so keep an eye out for a local announcement in your region.
