Review: Samsung unveils curved 34" CF791 monitor with quantum dots

|

At Gamescom, Samsung announced its return to the gaming segment of the PC monitor market. At IFA 2016, the company has announced that a curved 34” CF791 monitor with FreeSync and quantum dot technology will be part of the push.

Curved 34” monitor

The curved ultra-wide monitor comes with a 3440x1440 resolution (21:9 aspect ratio) and a VA LCD panel. Samsung believes that it is the perfect match for gamers looking for the best PC gaming experience.

The monitor supports AMD’s FreeSync technology, which is an adaptive frame rate system that ensures that the graphics card and monitor are in constant sync. This will eliminate judder and tearing. FreeSync is supported over both HDMI and DisplayPort, says Samsung. Previously, FreeSync was only supported over DisplayPort. The maximum refresh rate is 100 Hz and the response time is 4 ms.

Samsung has also equipped the LED backlight with a quantum dot filter to widen the color gamut to 125% sRGB. However, wide color gamut requires that the content has also been created, and made available, in wide color gamut. If not, color accuracy will be degraded visibly.

Lastly, Samsung highlights built-in 2x 7W speakers, 2x HDMI, 1x DisplayPort, 1x headphone, and 2x USB ports. The stand offers height and tilt adjustment.

In addition to the new CF791, Samsung says that the previously announced CFG70 series will be expanded with a 27” model.
