At CES 2022, TCL has unveiled new TV models coming to North America in 2022. TCL will expand its 'XL Collection' and introduce technologies such as 144Hz panels and TrueCut Motion.

TCL said that it will upgrade its entire lineup of TVs with Roku and Google TV in 2022. At CES 2022, however, the company only highlighted a few of the new models. TCL's new 7-series R754 is a 98 inch LCD model starting at under $8000 with 4K resolution and HDMI 2.1 for 4K120. It comes with Google TV with access to popular streaming services like Disney+, HBO Max and Netflix.

The company said that its focus on extra-large TVs is a response to current trends where blockbuster movies premiere on the same day in theaters and at home. In North America, 60-inch TVs or larger represented one quarter of units sold in 2022. - "Now you don’t have to leave the house to enjoy blockbuster movies, which is a huge shift for home entertainment, so to enjoy that same truly immersive experience of the cinema screen under your own roof, we’re offering bigger, more powerful TVs," said Chris Larson, SVP, TCL North America. TCL will also bring to the US a 85-inch X925 Pro with its third generation of miniLED backlight technology for LCD panels. TCL already sells the X925 Pro in Europe. It will also feature Google TV and is supports YouTube's 8K streaming since Google is now mandating support for the required AV1 video format. TCL's other new Google TVs and Roku TVs for 2022 will be announced later.

Another new development in 2022 is that TCL will step up from 120Hz panel refresh to 144Hz for smoother gameplay with supported devices such as PCs. TCL did not clarify which TV models will support 144Hz. - "TCL’s premium TVs currently support gaming at 4K HDR in 120Hz but this year, the sets will step up from a 120Hz panel refresh to 144Hz for even smoother action and faster game-feel. Previously only existing on select high-end gaming monitors that typically max out at a 32-inch screen size, now that TCL’s high-performance TVs will support 4K at 144Hz serious gamers will want to upgrade from a small gaming monitor to something more impactful," said TCL. Recent TCL TVs already supported other recent game-related developments such as HDMI 2.1, ALLM and VRR. Lastly, TCL announced a partnership with Pixelworks and other companies to create TrueCut Motion, the "first dynamic video motion ecosystem". The company provided the following explanation and released a teaser video.
TCL is working with Pixelworks and other entertainment leaders to define and deploy a new motion ecosystem with a wholistic approach, to bring the power and innovation of the TrueCut Motion eco-system to its high-performance TV models in North America for the first time. A critical component to great visual experiences, TrueCut Motion is an end-to-end solution that includes a new content delivery format and device certification program to guarantee a consistent filmmaker-approved output. With TrueCut Motion, content creators have a new tool to dynamically use motion to better express style, to immerse viewers in stories and to elicit emotion. With TrueCut Motion technology, viewers can witness this incredible motion, consistently presented the way the filmmaker intended, without adjusting settings on the TV remote. The addition of TrueCut Motion along with features like 4K and HDR mean that viewers will have a home theater experience unlike anything previously imaginable.
