Reuters reports that Samsung is “in last-stage talks” with Google to launch Samsung Smart TVs based on the Google TV platform. The TVs will be unveiled at an event “next year”.

Sony was the first TV manufacturer to incorporate the Google TV platform but with little success. Since then Google has updated Google TV to version 2.0 (hands-on here) and has approached the other major TV makers.

In a Reuters report, Samsung’s president of the TV division, Yoon Bo-keun, says that Samsung and Google is “in last-stage talks” to launch Google TV based TVs. He also claims that Samsung’s Google TV service will differ from those of competitors, without elaborating further.
The Google TV 2.0 platform incorporates TV Apps and a new simpler user interface. It is based on the Android system and should provide users with a range of streaming, music, gaming and media center apps from day one.
Yoon Boo-keun says that Samsung plans to unveil their Google TVs at “an event next year”, but probably not at CES 2012 in January. LG is also considering the Google TV platform.
