After previously releasing the NES Classic, Nintendo will in September 2017 launch a retro version of the successor Super NES with 21 games, including one unreleased title, for $80 / Ł80.
Super Nintendo Entertainment System
Last year, Nintendo felt that it was time to bring back its classic game consoles and it did so with the original NES in a retro package. It quickly sold out and the company discontinued NES Classic shortly after.
To replace it, Nintendo will release a retro version of the successor ‘Super Nintendo Entertainment System’ – also known as ‘Super Nintendo’ or simply ‘SNES’ – that was released in 1991 as a 16-bit game console. If you grew up in the nineties you most likely remember it. Close to 50 million units were sold globally.
- “While many people from around the world consider the Super NES to be one of the greatest video game systems ever made, many of our younger fans never had a chance to play it,” said Doug Bowser, Nintendo of America’s SVP of Sales and Marketing. “With the Super NES Classic Edition, new fans will be introduced to some of the best Nintendo games of all time, while longtime fans can relive some of their favorite retro classics with family and friends.”

The Super NES Classic comes with 21 games, including Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Street Fighter, and Final Fantasy. It will also include the unreleased title Star Fox 2 but to get access you need to complete the first level of Star Fox.
Games are automatically upscales to HD resolution and the game console connects to any TV via HDMI. It also comes bundled with two wired SNES Classic game controllers.
Nintendo will release the Super NES Classic on September 29 for $80 dollars in the US and Ł80 in the UK. It is already listed on Amazon UK but not yet on Amazon US. Release details for other regions are not clear at this at this point. More information is available on nintendo.com.
