Christopher Nolan's new movie 'Oppenheimer', which will premiere in mid-July, will be presented in IMAX 70mm with 1.43:1 aspect ratio, but only in 30 theaters around the world.
There is digital 4K, Dolby Cinema, direct-view LED cinema screens and other formats, but IMAX still represents the best of the best if you ask one of the biggest filmmakers of our time.

Only problem is that IMAX comes in many shapes and forms including what some fans refer to as "LieMAX".

Nolan is referring to the 70mm IMAX format (70mm / 15 perforations) where images expand up to a 1.43:1 aspect ratio. Here, you get to see images in full without a cropped top and bottom.
Only in 30 theaters worldwide
Oppenheimer in "real" IMAX in up to a 1.43:1 aspect ratio can only be experienced in 30 theaters, according to IMAX.
Most of these are located in the US but a few of them are found in Canada, the UK, Australia and Czech Republic. A full list is included in the table below.
As for the home release, we still do not know when or how Oppenheimer will be released but it will not be presented on modern TVs in a format taller than 16:9, also known as 1.78:1, which is almost the same as regular cinema at 1.85:1.
Included below is also a format guide (via reddit) to illustrate the differences between IMAX and other theatrical formats. DCP is short for Digital Cinema Package, the 2K/4K digital cinema standard prevalent today.
Oppenheimer premieres theatrically on July 21, 2023.
