Review: LG and Sony launch first 83" OLED TVs

4K OLED is growing in size. LG and Sony's first 83-inch OLED TVs are rolling out now in Europe, North America, and other regions. 

83-inch 4K OLED

LG is launching its first 83-inch 4K OLED as part of the C1 range while Sony is launching its version as part of the A90J range. The TVs come with the same features as the smaller screen sizes so read FlatpanelsHD's in-depth reviews to learn more. Both LG and Sony's 83-inch OLED TVs will be expensive at launch; $6000-8000 in the US and £7000/€8000 in Europe. In most regions the 83-inch screen costs twice as much, if not more, as the 77-inch screen. High-end 85-inch LCD TVs are also much cheaper.

Made in China

The 83-inch 4K OLED panel is manufactured at LG Display's new factory in Guangzhou, China, which utilizes a novel production method (MMG or Multi-Model Glass) to reduce costs. Also read: 42" OLED TVs coming in 2021 – 20-30" OLED later The 83-inch panel is not the largest OLED panel produced. There is an 88-inch 8K OLED panel but the TV (LG ZX) is even more expensive with a sticker price of $30000. TV makers like B&O, Hisense, Panasonic, Philips and Vizio are also offering OLED TVs but they have yet to announce any 83-inch models. Samsung and TCL use LCD technology their TVs.
