We already told you that Samsung and LG had large-size OLED-TVs coming for 2012. Now LG has confirmed that they will be introducing a 55-inch OLED-TV at CES 2012 in Las Vegas.

LG 55-inch OLED-TV
FlatpanelsHD learned that LG and Samsung had developed 55” OLED-TV prototypes back in September. Samsung confirmed in November and LG has now confirmed that they plan to introduce a 55-inch OLED-TV at CES 2012.

LG wants to introduce their 55-inch OLED-TV at CES 2012, picture: Engadget.com

The 55-inch TV is razor-thin and will introduce to the world even more impressive picture quality than today’s high-end TVs. The OLED technology can enable near-perfect response time, perfect black levels, extremely wide viewing angles with no color shift and is very power-efficient.

- ”Our objective has always been to actively define and lead emerging display technology markets. Although OLED technology is seen as the future of TV display, the technology has been limited to smaller display sizes and by high costs, until now. LG Display's 55-inch OLED TV panel has overcome these barriers.” LG says.

LG wants to introduce their 55-inch OLED-TV at CES 2012, picture: Engadget.com

LG specifies that they will use white OLED (WOLED) with color filters. This enables LG to reduce production costs significantly, meaning that the 55-inch might actually be affordable. LG’s solution will provide static contrast ratio levels over 100,000:1 and response time that is 1000 times faster than LCD panels. LG also says that the TV is just 5 mm thick.

LG’s 55-inch OLED-TV will be officially unveiled at CES 2012 in Las Vegas in January. FlatpanelsHD will provide full coverage from the CES floors.

- Source: LG & Engadget.com
